East of England
Living and working in the East of England Deanery
The East of England Deanery covers the six counties of Cambridgeshire, Norfolk, Suffolk, Essex, Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire (see map). This large and diverse region is predominantly rural but includes relatively urbanised areas, particularly in the south and west where it borders onto London.
The Deanery's 18 acute trusts, which include two medical schools, deliver higher training in all 30 medical specialties except audiological medicine, immunology and paediatric cardiology.
A particular strength is academic medicine, with the opportunities for research in the Cambridge area being among the best in the world. There is also a strong emphasis on the development of leadership and teaching skills. The quality of training is closely monitored by the School of Medicine, with a well-established culture of trainee involvement ensuring that the highest possible standards are achieved.
