Northern Deanery covers the north and north-east, which is a beautiful and vibrant area comprising Northumberland, Tyne & Wear, County Durham, Cumbria and the Tees Valley.  The quality of life is excellent, the cost of living is low, and we have some of the most beautiful cities, coasts and countryside in the UK.

We have a strong track record of excellence in service delivery to patients, with all secondary care training trusts rated good or excellent for quality of services in the most recent care quality commission performance ratings, by far the highest score in England.

We have an excellent track record in responding to needs of trainees for flexible training, time out of programme and to develop sub-specialty training skills.  Also, development and training is set up to help trainees achieve a good work/life balance, essential for everyone’s well-being; and we pay one of the highest levels of study leave, have many academic opportunities including research and education, and pay generous relocation expenses of up to £8,000.

Dual-accreditation

Vacancies within the following specialties that are recruited to in Northern Deanery will be dual-accrediting posts with general (internal) medicine:

• acute internal medicine
• cardiology
• clinical pharmacology & therapeutics
• endocrinology & diabetes
• gastroenterology
• geriatric medicine
• infectious diseases
• renal medicine
• respiratory medicine
• rheumatology.

Therefore, within the Northern Deanery, all vacancies in these specialties will be advertised as 'with general internal medicine (GIM)' and all offers will be made as dual-accrediting posts with GIM.
