Royal College of Physicians recruitment to core medical training 2011

Round 2

External Links:

A second round (R2) of recruitment to 2012 ST3-level posts will take place in late summer/autumn. As R2 is part-dependent upon the results of R1, this cannot be scheduled too specifically at present, but information will be published to this website once it is available.

Timeline

A provisional timeline for the R2 ST3 recruitment process has been published to the timeline page of this website.

As noted therein, these dates are provisional and are subject to change, so please do bear this in mind; also, deanery/specialty-specific interview dates will not likely be available until later in the year, around July/August 2012.

Updates will be added to this website as and when they become available.

Round 2 structure

This will be a repeat of the first round (R1), and will be regarded as completely independent; so it will be necessary for anyone wishing to apply again to complete an application form for any specialties or deaneries/UoAs they wish to apply to; and potentially sit interview(s).

Candidates do not need to have applied in R1 to be able to apply to R2; but those candidates who did apply in R1 will be able to apply again if they wish; their R1 application(s) will have no bearing on any they wish to make in R2.

The posts recruited to in R2 will be those with start dates which can be anytime up to 31 March 2012. While R2 will recruit to some posts which were not filled in R1, as well as any other posts which arise after R1 has closed; it is likely that fewer posts will be available in R2.

Applicants who applied in Round 1

Rounds 1 and 2 are independent of each other, so candidates who applied in R1 are able to re-apply in R2 if they so wish.

This even includes candidates who gained a post in R1. Please do bear in mind the GMC's Good Medical Practice states that candidates must work their contractual notice period before moving from one post to another - and so any candidates wishing to apply for a new post in R2 must take note of this.

Should candidates wish to leave a post without working their full notice period, this must be agreed with their current deanery/trust in advance. It is possible that candidates who wish to leave a LAT post to move to a substantive NTN post may be more likely to be allowed to do so - but this must be agreed in advance, regardless.

Re-applying

If candidates wish to apply in R2, having applied in R1, it will be necessary to re-register and re-apply again - it will not be possible to just log back in using your R1 details and start applying.See the application form section of this website for more information.

Post start dates

All posts entered into R2 will have start dates between late 2012 and 31 March 2013. These will be clarified by deaneries once the posts entered into R2 have been identified.
